Choosing A Swim Instructor For Kids

Swimming is a favorite past time, a summer vacation favorite and a life saving skill. All children should be taught how to swim not only for enjoyment and socialization but also as a means of personal safety. As parents we take our kids to the pediatrician and we have our children receive their vaccinations from the time they are born. We do this as a precaution to keep them healthy and safe. Teaching a child to swim is the same principle. Making the choice to give your child swim lessons is another step towards keeping them protected as they grow.

The choice to jump into children’s swim lessons is easy, but what about choosing a swim instructor for kids? There are some questions to consider which will lead you to making the best choice for your kids. You want to ask if the instructor is kid friendly. If a swim instructor worked only with adults they may have a difficult time relating to your child, which can make for an unpleasant experience. Swim lessons should be fun and enjoyable as well as contain firm safety rules and guidelines for a healthy balance. Your child’s swim instructor should be likable, trustworthy and knowledgeable .A swim instructor for kids should not only have experience-teaching kids but also hold safety certifications in CPR and first aid. Swim lessons don’t guarantee a child won’t have an accident and a swim instructor should have the life saving skills in the event that they are needed.

Be sure to ask a swim instructor if he or she can come to a home pool for lessons or if you and your child will require travel to and from a local pool. Also ask if lessons are private in a one-on-one setting or if it is a group lesson. Private one-on-one lessons give a child the individual attention they may need to excel. Other children enjoy a more social environment. Inquire about swim lesson levels that are available and the ages that are taught. This ensures that your child will receive the most age and skill level appropriate lessons to help them become the best swimmer they can be.
